Ms. Kempf's School Counseling Components:
8th Grade Careers Class:
In this class, students will learn about themselves, their interests related to careers, college exploration and college information. They will also take part in the "Hired" course that is offered through CEP, Inc. This course teaches students skills to help prepare them for getting a job while they are in high school, along with learning job specific skills.
Small Groups:
Often I will run small and large groups when needed. Students may be referred to joining a group from their teacher or parent/guardian. Topics that may be covered include: Divorce, Friendship/Social Skills, Leadership, Study Skills, etc. Parents/Guardians may opt out of having their child participate in groups, but by participating in a group, students have the opportunity to grow, learn new skills, and build relationships with their peers.
Individual Counseling Sessions:
As needed, I meet with individual students to discuss any issues that the student may be encountering in their life and interfering with his/her ability to be successful in school. Students may be referred to individual counseling by their teacher, parent/guardian, administrator, support team, or the student themselves. Matters discussed during individual sessions are confidential unless an issue is covered under the Mandatory Reporting Law.
Individual Student Planning/Responsive Services:
For middle/high school students, I will meet with them on a regular basis throughout the school year to discuss one or more of the following areas:
Personalized education and assistance to achieve personal goals
Bullying
Goal Setting/Decision Making
Academic Planning - College/Career Planning
Scheduling
